Texas Sen. Ted Cruz toured tornado damage in Perryton on Saturday with Mayor Kerry Symons and visited with victims.

The town was hit by an EF3 tornado Thursday that killed at least three people and injured more than 100 others. Cruz said he has faith the community will come out stronger from the tragedy.

But first, he said Perryton must have time to grieve.

People are hurting, but they are also resilient,” said Cruz. “Texans are tough and you know they may shed a tear, then they wipe off the tear and go put on their gloves and go to work.”

Cruz said the entire state of Texas is grieving for Perryton and that they will be inspired by how the city is helping one another pick up the pieces and inspiring their neighbors to push on.

“The city of Perryton and its people are resilient and strong. It’s during these times that we must all come together to help out our fellow Texans. Yesterday, we joined together as one to begin rebuilding this great West Texas city. Perryton represents the very best of us: courageous, powerful and unified. I am grateful to the leadership of all state and local officials and will continue working with them to ensure the Perryton community receives all the personnel and resources necessary to get back on their feet.”'
