Mitchel Coombs

Meteorologist

Mitchel Coombs was born in Ogden, Utah. Mitchel and his family were only there for a few months before moving to the Scranton, Pennsylvania area before arriving in Waco, Texas soon after. Waco is where Mitchel grew up and calls home.

Mitchel's interest and eventual passion for weather resulted from the widely varied types of weather he experienced in Central Texas, especially severe weather and tornadoes.

Following his passion he attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Geoscience in December 2014.

After a few years of helping care for family in Northern Utah, Mitchel returned to Waco and began my master’s degree. Mitchel's Master of Arts in Strategic Communication and Innovation from Texas Tech University in May 2022.

He interned at WDHN in Dothan, Alabama. When severe weather was in the forecast, Mitchel would often chase the worst Mother Nature could dish out. Being out in the field was always a beneficial learning experience, and he continued to chase storms whenever the opportunity arises.

Mitchel enjoyed a wide range of activities including hiking, nature photography, and rockhounding. He enjoys the adventure and capturing the moments along the way.

One goal during his time in Montana is to enjoy a few more outdoor activities. He has yet to experience kayaking and skiing. Additionally, Mitchel is a big sports fan and enjoys participating in Cosplay craftsmanship competitions.
