MISSOULA, Mont. — Madison County voters have approved a 3% sales tax on recreational and medical marijuana sales.
Recreational marijuana use was legalized in Montana in 2021 for adults over the age of 21. Counties can tax the sale of both medical and recreational marijuana up to 3%. The state taxes medical marijuana at 4%, and recreational marijuana at 20% already.
Voters approved the tax on recreational marijuana 3,884 votes to 1,000 votes. The measure to tax medical marijuana sales was approved 2,833 votes to 2,025 votes.
All election results are unofficial until the votes are canvassed.
